Black Lullaby

Hush child, hush

I speak; my voice a breath

My words; mere sounds

Their meaning lost

In theories of the mind

Hush child, hush

I work; my labour nought

My hands: so old

Their meaning lost

In oft repeated tasks

Hush child, hush

Tomorrow; another day

Hope; sustains us

Food; now none

Hush child, hush
